PFP Formally Endorses BDS Call

BDS CallThe four years that have elapsed since PFP was launched have seen massive changes within the global Palestine solidarity movement. Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns have evolved from a niche segment of activity to being the unifying force behind the bulk of international solidarity activism, reflecting the consensus position of Palestinian civil society.

When PFP first came into being, our movement was plagued by factionalism, and we made a deliberate choice to bypass these divisions by adopting a policy of non-alignment. This meant that we maintained no political platform, endorsed no statements, and joined no coalitions. The nature of our focusproviding tools and resources to support other grassroots activists, rather than mounting campaigns of our ownmade it easy to maintain such a policy.

The 2005 Palestinian civil society call for BDS has come to provide our movement with the unity it once lacked, and we believe that a policy preventing us from endorsing that call is outdated and unnecessary. As activists around the globe celebrate the 5th anniversary of the call on July 9th, the Palestine Freedom Project congratulates its authors and proponents, and proudly joins its growing list of endorsers.

PFP will continue to work with all organizations which share the simple goals described within the document, despite the fact the some have yet to formally endorse it. Our focus on providing tools and resources to support the campaigns of others remains in place, but we will now have the freedom to participate more directly in those campaigns as needed.

Happy birthday, BDS call... and alf mabrouk!
